Do I need a visa to enter Morocco?

Students of most nationalities are able to enter Morocco on a 90 day tourist visa which is stamped into your passport at the point of Entry. (If you're not European, North American or Canadian, please check with the Moroccan embassy in your country if this applies to you.) If you plan to study at Arabophon for at least nine months, you can apply for a student visa at the local immigration office. In this case, too, you would first enter on a tourist visa and once you are in country and have started you studies, you can apply for a student visa.

What are my housing options?

Regarding housing for students, Arabophon works together with several organizations and persons in order to provide you with various types of housing, ranging from homestays in the Old Medina and Ville Nouvelle, to both furnished and unfurnished apartments, hostels and hotels. We highly recommend homestays, since it is by far the best way to get fully immersed in the culture and be forced to listen to Arabic and speak it all the time.

Which Modern Standard Arabic (Fossha) books do you use?

Books we mostly use for Fossha are Al-Kitaab (parts 1-3) by Kristen Brustad et al. (Georgetown University) supplemented by other material from literature and media.

When do your courses start?

Our classes are scheduled on demand, so classes can start anytime you'd like. If you're interested in joining a group, you can check our MSA schedule or Moroccan Arabic schedule

What schedule do the lessons have?

We normally teach Monday through Friday in 90 minute sessions; two morning session and two afternoon sessions. Classes in the evenings or on Saturdays can be arranged on demand.

What are the enrollment procedures?

We accept enrollments on an ongoing basis. Enrollments should be made at least two weeks before the start of the course or your individual sessions. If you want to enroll in a class, please contact us by e-mail or phone.

When do I pay for my classes?

Course fees together with a 300 Dh enrolment fee (for first-time students) are to be paid at the start of your classes.

How should payment be made?

  • We accept payment in Moroccan Dirhams.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot accept foreign cheques, credit or debit cards.
  • Please note that your course fees are non-refundable.

What if I have to cancel my classes?

At the beginning of each module, the client has to communicate the dates that he or she will not be available. That way, for individual classes, those dates will not be considered, and the schedule will be prepared accordingly. However, other sessions that are missed, which were not announced previously, will have to be paid.

If a student has signed up for a class, but cancels less than 2 weeks prior to the starting of the class, he is required to pay 50% of the fees. Students who do not cancel the class but do not show up at the day of class are requested to pay the full tuition fee.
